Fort De Soto East Beach Fishing

6.8· Beach · Tierra Verde, FL

Free: No fee to fish; parking is paid (checked Sep 27, 2026)

East Beach is the Tampa Bay side of Fort De Soto Park, a long, calm bay beach on Mullet Key looking toward the Sunshine Skyway. County code bans fishing inside the buoyed swim zone in front of the picnic shelters and allows wading only in designated swim areas, so this is cast-from-the-sand fishing: walk northeast past the buoys and work the grass edges and the drop-off from the beach. Spotted seatrout, redfish and snook push close on the higher tides from spring through fall, Spanish mackerel, ladyfish and jacks chase bait along the edge, and flounder and whiting feed on the sand. Tides are small and mixed, with two uneven highs and lows most days, so fish the moving water either side of a change. The park is open 7 a.m. to sunset, parking is paid and a fishing license is required throughout the park.
