Skyway North Beach, St. Petersburg Fishing
6.4· Beach· Tierra Verde, FL
Skyway North Beach is the sandy bay shoreline at the north end of the Sunshine Skyway, on the east side of the bridge approach off I-275 in southern St. Petersburg, inside the footprint of Skyway Fishing Pier State Park. It is a beach and bank fishing site, and kayak anglers launch from it too. It is a wade-and-cast spot rather than a pier: anglers walk the sand and the grass edges with light spinning gear, working for snook, redfish and spotted seatrout in the warm months, and Spanish mackerel and jacks when bait is thick. Tarpon roll through the mouth of Tampa Bay in late spring and summer. Fish a moving tide, mind the strong current near the bridge, and watch for stingrays in the shallows.
