Siesta Beach Fishing

6.1· Beach · Sarasota, FL

Free: No entry fee; free county parking lot (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Siesta Beach is Sarasota County's best-known Gulf beach, a broad sweep of fine quartz sand on Siesta Key facing calm, clear water. It is first a swimming beach: four lifeguard stands cover most of the park's shore and county code bans fishing inside the buoyed swim areas, so anglers head for the quieter stretch at the northwest end and work the trough along the water's edge at first light and in the evening. Snook move into that trough from late spring and stay into early fall, pompano and whiting feed on the bars in the cooler months, and Spanish mackerel, ladyfish and jacks follow the spring and fall bait. Tides are mixed and small, so fish a moving tide early. The county lot has more than 950 free spaces. Cast only where no swim buoys are set and no one is in the water.
