Veterans Park at Rivergate Fishing

6.4· Backwater · Port St. Lucie, FL

Veterans Park at Rivergate is a Port St. Lucie city park on the North Fork of the St. Lucie River, with a lighted riverwalk boardwalk where fishing is permitted, three boat ramps and a Pearl Harbor memorial. It is an easy place to fish the North Fork from shore: snook are the main draw, especially at dawn, dusk and in the evening along the lights, with jacks, ladyfish, juvenile tarpon and mangrove snapper in the warm months and sheepshead and black drum in winter. Moving water is best, and the river fishes far better when it runs clear and salty than after heavy rain. The park has ADA restrooms, pavilions and grills, and the city lists the park, the boardwalk and the ramps as open 24/7. Keep clear of the boat ramps and watch for summer lightning.
