Flagler Avenue Beach Approach, New Smyrna Beach Fishing
5.7· Beach· New Smyrna Beach, FL
The Flagler Avenue beach approach is the heart of New Smyrna Beach's oceanfront, where the Flagler Avenue strip of restaurants and surf shops runs down to a wide Atlantic beach with paid parking, restrooms and showers. It is a lifeguarded swim and surf beach, so it is better as a dawn, dusk or off-season surf-fishing spot than a summer-afternoon one. Anglers walk out from the approach and fish the troughs and sandbars for whiting, pompano, bluefish and Spanish mackerel, with redfish and flounder on the right tides. Keep well clear of the lifeguard towers and swimmers, and read the posted signs. Volusia County does not allow chumming. Rip currents and crowds are the main hazards.
