North Causeway West Fishing Pier, New Smyrna Beach

6.5· Pier· New Smyrna Beach, FL

The fishing pier at the west end of New Smyrna Beach's North Causeway sits beside the city's west-side boat ramps, on the mainland shore of the Indian River Lagoon, just south of the causeway bridge. The water is shallow, brackish and nearly tideless, so the fishing follows wind, bait and the season rather than a big tide swing. Redfish, spotted seatrout, black drum and sheepshead are the staples, with snook and jacks in the warm months, and the town leans hard on its Redfish Capital reputation. Anglers fish live shrimp or cut bait on the bottom, or throw soft plastics along the shadow lines. The ramp lot is free and the park is reached straight off the causeway. Boat trailers and launching traffic share the lot, so mind your cast and your car.
