Frank Rendon Park Fishing

Frank Rendon Park is a Volusia County beachfront park in Daytona Beach Shores, raised above the sand with a big parking lot, restrooms and showers, which makes it a comfortable base for surf fishing. The beach in front of it is open Atlantic surf where whiting are the everyday catch, pompano come through in spring and late fall, bluefish run in fall and winter, and redfish, black drum and flounder turn up in the troughs. Fish a two-hook bottom rig with shrimp or sand fleas on the incoming tide; the Atlantic gives two highs and two lows a day. This is a driving beach, so watch for cars, and in summer daytime hours the stretch from the park's south edge is a designated surfing zone, so fish clear of surfers and swimmers. County lots charge a daily parking fee. Rip currents, jellyfish and lightning are the hazards.
