George Martin City Park, long known as Gautier City Park, is the City of Gautier's riverside park at 914 De La Pointe Drive, with a fishing pier, free boat launches on Mary Walker Bayou, restrooms, a playground and a splash pad. The bayou opens a short way downstream into the West Pascagoula River just above US 90, so the water is brackish and the catch shifts with the river: speckled trout, redfish, flounder and black drum when it is salty, and bass and bream when floods push fresh water down. Sheepshead work the pilings in the cooler months, and croaker and catfish fill summer evenings. Live shrimp under a cork or on a light bottom rig catches nearly everything. It is an easy, family-friendly spot; keep clear of the launch lanes and leave the pier when storms roll in.
