The Old Spanish Fort Pier is a Jackson County fishing pier and boat ramp at the end of Hickory Street in Pascagoula, tucked behind the Old Spanish Fort and Krebs Cemetery on the shore of Krebs Lake, a marshy backwater of the Pascagoula River close to its mouth. The county lists the piers and ramp among its public facilities, and the city has sent boaters here when the Point Park launches were shut for work. The water is brackish: speckled trout, redfish and flounder move in when the river runs low and salty, while croaker, black drum and catfish are steady bottom bites most of the year. Fish live shrimp under a cork or on the bottom while the tide is moving. It sits at the end of a residential street, so park considerately, give launching boats room and watch the sky on summer afternoons.
