Chocalotta Ramp is a state boat launch on the Mobile Bay Causeway at 3101 Battleship Parkway, Spanish Fort, where the shallow, brackish water of Chacaloochee Bay in the lower Mobile-Tensaw Delta meets the road. The state lists the access area among the delta's fishing sites for anglers without boats and on its map of coastal fishing access points, and bank fishing is popular all along this stretch of the Causeway. Fall is best, when runs of redfish, speckled trout and flounder push up from the bay; after heavy rain the water freshens and bass and bream take over. Fish live shrimp on a Carolina rig for reds, bull minnows on the bottom for flounder, and grubs or shrimp under a cork for specks. The lot holds about 50 vehicles and trailers and has no lights. Keep clear of the four ramp lanes, never wade the soft mud, and mind the busy highway.
