Arlington Park is a City of Mobile park on the upper western shore of Mobile Bay, off South Broad Street in the Brookley area and beside the Coast Guard's Sector Mobile base. The city lists fishing among its amenities, with a kayak launch, pavilions, restrooms and a walking trail, and a long walking pier, built for fishing and bay viewing, crosses the park's marsh to a platform over open water. This is the brackish top of the bay, a few miles south of the Mobile River's mouth, so the water is often brown and the catch follows the salinity. Expect croaker, white trout, catfish and black drum much of the year, and speckled trout, redfish and flounder in a dry late summer and fall. Fish shrimp on the bottom off the end of the pier, or under a cork along the marsh edge. Stay clear of the Coast Guard docks next door, and leave when summer lightning moves in.
