Dog River Park, which locals also call Navco Park or Luscher Park, is a City of Mobile park on the upper Dog River with a four-lane boat launch, courtesy docks, a kayak launch, a community center and ball fields. It is also a place to fish on foot, from the grassy bank beside the launch. This far up the river the water is only slightly salty and often nearly fresh after spring rains, so catfish, largemouth bass and bream are common, and the saltwater fish arrive with the saltier water of late summer and fall dry spells: speckled trout, redfish, croaker and the odd flounder. Live or fresh dead shrimp is the bait to bring. The ramps get busy on weekends, so fish away from the lanes and keep your lines clear of boaters using the docks.
