Harbour Heights Park Fishing

6.1· Backwater · Charlotte County, FL

Harbour Heights Park is a Charlotte County riverside park on the west bank of the Peace River, a few miles upriver of the I-75 bridge, with a boat ramp, a kayak launch and a bank to fish from. This is the brackish tidal river above Charlotte Harbor, so the catch follows the rain: snook are the main fish all year, juvenile tarpon roll off the park in the warm months, black drum school through in spring, and short redfish and small mangrove snapper hold around docks and deeper bends in winter. Young bull sharks, jacks and catfish are common. Live shrimp on the bottom or under a cork catches most of it, best on moving water early and late. The park is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. with restrooms and picnic shelters. Keep clear of launching boats and watch for alligators.
