Beach Access 36A, Gulf Islands National Seashore Fishing

6.2· Beach · Navarre, FL

Free: No fee, but also no restrooms or lifeguards (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Beach Access 36A is the easternmost of the National Park Service's free Gulf-side lots on Highway 399, between the Opal Beach complex and the west end of Navarre Beach. The lot sits close behind the beach, so it is one of the easier places on this undeveloped stretch of Santa Rosa Island to haul surf gear to the water. The Park Service names fishing among the activities here. Expect pompano and Gulf whiting in spring and fall, Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, blue runners and jacks with the summer bait, and redfish and flounder along the beach in autumn. Aerial images show a clear trough and outer bar off this beach. Tides are slight, generally a single rise and fall each day. There are no restrooms, water or lifeguards, the lot is off limits for loitering from sunset to 8 a.m., and rip currents are a real danger.
