Pensacola Beach Park East Fishing

6.2· Beach · Escambia County, FL

Pensacola Beach Park East is a four-acre beach park kept by the Santa Rosa Island Authority near the eastern end of Pensacola Beach, where wooden dune crossovers run from a large lot and a bathhouse down to the Gulf. It suits a quick surf session with facilities close at hand: pompano in spring and fall, Gulf whiting through the cool months, redfish in autumn, and Spanish mackerel, bluefish and ladyfish when summer bait crowds the shoreline. Most anglers soak shrimp or sand fleas in the first trough and keep a spoon handy for passing schools. The Gulf tide here is slight, often a single rise and fall a day, so wind and water clarity decide the fishing. Lifeguards staff this beach in season and can move anglers away from bathers, and a snorkel reef sits just offshore, so keep casts well clear of snorkelers and dive flags.
