Best fishing spots in Punta Gorda

Punta Gorda's shore fishing leans heavily on backwater parks, with a good spread of piers, bridges, beaches and a single jetty rounding things out. Ponce de Leon Park, a pier roughly 2 miles from the center, makes a natural first stop for snook, redfish and spotted seatrout. Allapatchee Shores Park, a backwater stop just over 3 miles from the center, adds tarpon and mangrove snapper to the mix.

The US 41 Bridges, about 3.1 miles away, hold snook, sheepshead and crevalle jack. Gasparilla Island State Park, an inlet roughly 17.4 miles out, rates highest of all the spots nearby, with snook, redfish and crevalle jack. Stump Pass Beach State Park, just under 18 miles out, turns up snook, pompano and redfish.
